Last Saturday, as part of ‘Cultivating a culture of tinkering at home’, excited children and parents gathered for Tinker Camp, at the Science Centre Singapore.
We witnessed the frenzy as busy hands and creative minds, were at work, gearing up for the big launch of a chain reaction – The Domino Effect.
Junior Chef Tinkerer’s parents had a chance to tinker, collaborate, design and create Scribble Bots of various kinds. For most, it was their first time, and imagination had no bounds!
Following this session, as a prelude to the upcoming TinkerFest (Dec 10-18, 2016), we at Imagin8ors were afforded the opportunity to share views and key milestones of our company. Balaji Ramanujam (President and Co-Founder) set the context of the learning needs driven by a rapidly changing world. He led an open dialogue session together with Barbara Beaufait (Head of Learning), touching upon aspects of nurturing imagination & creativity for young children.
Thoughtful questions and ideas were shared by several parents. They led us to think; How do we raise engaged, confident learners who are prepared to become tomorrow’s innovators? How do we make learning joyful and fun?
A parent shared a personal story, of how she engaged with her child who loves to tinker. This led to exchanges of ideas, such as ‘parent-child co-play’ and the use of the internet as a tool for solutions. Another parent had thoughts, on how she taps into the creativity of her child by asking him a series of questions such as ‘What if?’. All were in agreement of the critical role parents play in engaging and promoting joyful learning experiences for their children.
We shared the beta version of the Imagin8ors app that is being developed, to enable the culture of tinkering at home, thereby giving parents many ideas and resources for deeper engagement and co-play.
The parent seminar culminated with the grand launch of the large, collaborative domino chain reaction comprised of wooden blocks, motors, balls, marbles and many other creative materials! The team spirit soared!
TinkerFest, powered by Science Centre Singapore & Imagin8ors connects children, parents, educators and makers in a week-long celebration of the joy of learning through play, exploration and experimentation. Please join us for ‘Spring Fling’ at TinkerFest to experience the joy of learning.
